Today we celebrate the motherhood of Mary: Solemnity of Mary, The Holy Mother of God. This brings the octave of Christmas to a close, with the celebration of Christmas ending January 9.
As we are thinking of moving the Christmas decorations out I thought I would encourage all a way to keep Christ alive in out home and hearts; Saint Pope John Paul II wrote “the little domestic church like the greater Church, needs to be constantly and intensely evangelized: hence its duty regarding permanent education in the Faith.”
I thought I would share how we decorate our home as our little “domestic church” hopefully to encourage others to do so also. Reminders of God’s presence spreads the gospel and evangelizes family, and those that visit and enter our homes.
I am sure most reading this have beautiful areas in your home of holiness, if you have any ideas or pictures please share.
The one hundred year anniversary of Fatima is coming upon us next week May 13, When Mary appeared to three small shepard children at Fatima Portugal. Although I posted this several months ago I feel the need to post again praying Mary will intercede for others as she has in my life bring me closer to her Son Jesus.
Miracles of Fatima, Portugal
Lucia dos Santos was seven years old when she was shepherding the family ‘s flock with three other neighboring shepherd children, they were visited three times by a mysterious figure in the air, like a statue made of snow. This figure is believed to be a prefigure of the angelic apparitions that Lucia and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto later received in the spring of 1916.The children received three clear apparitions of the Angel, who literally identified himself as “the Angel of Peace” and “Angel Guardian, and the “Angel of Portugal.” The second apparition of an angel told the children I am the ” Angel of Portugal, offer prayers and sacrifices continually.” During the third apparition, the angel had in his hand a chalice over which hung a host, from which drops of Blood fell into the chalice. He repeated three times with the children: “Most Holy Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — I adore thee profoundly. I offer thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ.” ♥ Our Lady’s first visit to the three children came while they were shepherding flocks of sheep in a small hamlet called Fatima, Portugal when the sun was directly overhead called (solar noon) on Sunday May 13, 1917. A beautiful Lady appeared to the children and asked them to return every month on the 13th day through October at the same time ; she told the children “I am of Heaven.”
June 13, 1917 the Lady showed the children her Immaculate Heart pieced by thorns. The thorns represent the sins of mankind, at this time the children felt they should not reveal this apparition. “What do you want?” asked Lucia “I wish you to come here on the 13th of next month to pray the Rosary everyday and learn to read. Later I will tell you what I wan
During her second apparition, the message was to pray, make sacrifices and to say the rosary.
As Our Lady spoke during her third apparition, she stretched out her hands and bright rays came forth which seemed to penetrate into the earth. All at once the ground vanished, and the children saw hell. Frightened they lifted their eyes to the Lady who told them “You have seen hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save future souls God wishes to establish in the world the devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If people do what I tell you, many souls will be saved.”
“Do you want to learn a prayer?” Mary asked. “Yes we do!” the children responded. “When you recite the Rosary, say at the end of each decade: Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Your Mercy.”
In August the children were prevented by the civil authorities to go to the 4th meeting on the 13th. Finally on Aug. 19, while they fed the flock, they saw the Lady who said “I want you to continue see me on the 13th, and continue to say the rosary every day. I, in the last month will make the miracle that all will believe.” Then with a sad appearance told them: “Pray a lot and offer sacrifices for sinners. Many souls go the hell because there is none who pray for them.”
On Sept. 13 the children and about 30,000 people recited the rosary, and Our Lady appeared for the fifth time saying: “In October the Lord, Our Lady of Sorrows, the Lady of Mount Carmel, and St Joseph with the child Jesus, will come to bless the world. God is glad of your sacrifices.”
On Oct. 13, 1917 the children were surrounded by a crowd of 70,000 persons under a torrential rain. During her sixth and last apparition in Fatima, Our Lady said, “I am the Lady of the Rosary. I desire a chapel in my honor to be built here, and that people continue to recite the Rosary every day.” Lucy asked: “If I ask you for cures and conversions, will you grant them?” Our Lady responded, some yes, others no. It is necessary that they ask pardon for their sins, that they don’t offend God, our Lord. “Do you want anything else from me?” Lucia asked. “I do not want anything more,” Mary responded.
Witnessed by 70,000-100,000 people, the astounding Miracle of the Sun marks Fatima as unique among all Church-authenticated Marian apparitions. The “Great Sign,” given on October 13, 1917, majestically summarizes the whole Fatima message of God’s Divine Mercy and Justice, which are inseparable. A thin persistent rain fell, muddying the fields. Then she opened her hands and the promised sign happened. There appeared a bright sun, which began to turn, projecting bands of color that lit the clouds, the sky, the trees, and the crowd. Suddenly it looked as if it would fall on the crowd and they fell to their knees. Meanwhile the children saw a Lady dressed like the white of the sun with a blue cape and St. Joseph with the Child Jesus. They saw the Lord bless the world. The people then became aware that their clothes were dry. The miracle she had promised had come to be.
Many of those gathered saw the sun spinning in the sky, and then saw it break loose and zig-zag toward the earth, looking as if it would fall upon the people. Those gathered fell to the ground praying for mercy. Even secular and government newspaper reports tell of the Miracle of the Sun. Many prayed fervently thinking the world was at it’s end.
Following the apparitions, the seers’ lives were never the same. Pilgrims desired to see the children, to ask them questions or for prayers, and to have them bless objects. As Our Lady revealed Both Francisco and Jacinta contracted the Spanish flu and died within a year of one another. Mary told the children that Lucia would be the only one to survive in the apparitions. Lucia entered the school of the Sisters of St. Dorothy in Vilar, near Oporto, in the north of Portugal. On October 24, 1925, she entered as a postulant. She made her first vows on October 3, 1928, and her perpetual vows on October 3, 1934, receiving the name Sister Mary of the Sorrowful Mother.
In 1946, seeking a more contemplative life, she entered the Carmelite convent of St. Teresa in Coimbra, making her profession on May 31, 1949 and taking the name Sister Maria Lucia of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart.
In the years that followed, the predictions made by Our Lady did come to pass. World War I ended, but was followed by the more horrific Second World War. Russian Communism did spread its errors throughout the world, but eventually the country was Consecrated to Mary’s Immaculate Heart and the Berlin Wall and Communist Russia collapsed without fighting. And the assassination attempt on the life of Pope John Paul II, on May 13, 1981 failed.
Our lady asked Lucia, to spread devotion to Her Immaculate Heart. On December 17th , Lucia went before the tabernacle to ask Jesus how she should comply with Our Mothers request. Jesus made clear that she was to comply. On December 10th, 1925, the most Holy Virgin appeared to her, and by her side, elevated on a luminous cloud, was a child. The most Holy Virgin rested her hand in her shoulder, and as she did so, she showed her a heart encircled by thorns, which she was holding in her other hand. At the same time, the Child said:
“Have compassion on the Heart of your most holy Mother, covered with thorns, with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment, and there is no one to make an act of reparation to remove them.” Then the most holy Virgin said: “Look, my daughter, at my Heart , surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce me every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console me and say that I promise to assist at
the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation ,all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me.”
Instructions on praying the rosary.
Here is a great website that explains in detail the rosary. This site offers the scriptural rosary in detail. The Rosary is not just a long line of chants. As you pray one should meditate on the mysteries, all which are Biblical.

“Take my Yoke upon you and Learn from Me, for I am meek and Humble in heart, and You will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light”
Saint Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus will make our cross a lighter load if we invite Him into our life. If Jesus is not in your life ask him to be. If you do not have faith or believe , ask God in a simple prayer to show you the right path. God is all loving and merciful. Start with the simple prayer of the holy name of “Jesus” , saints such as the Apostle Paul, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Saint Dominic, Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Francis De Sales relied on the “Holy Name Of Jesus”. This can be a powerful prayer. Through this we have hope and assurance of eternal salvation.
I Corinthians 2:8 What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him.

A beautiful story by Carol
I have a lot of Jewish friends and when I shared with them about some of the problems I was having they insisted I meet their Rabbi and talk over my concerns with him. They seemed so enthusiastic about how much he had helped them. As an Israeli citizen he has a different cultural perspective from the 21st century american paradigm. I was told He was a prolific writer, well traveled, and richly resourced. Considering the high recommendations I made an appointment to see him. I enjoyed talking with him. He listened without judgement and his advice was stunning, brilliant and actually worked. I grew to trust him as I received amazing solutions to my most perplexing problems. My other friends noticed the changes in me and wanted to know what happened. They were eager to hear about the person who produced such a dramatic transformation in my life. I want to share Him and what He has done for me with everyone. My greatest tender, new friend…..Rabbi Jesus

When Mary Magdalene finds Jesus at the tomb on Easter morning she exclaims Rabbouni (teacher) This for me is a powerful scripture and resonates, I feel like Mary at the tomb in finding Jesus in my life.
The Appearance to Mary of Magdala
But Mary stayed outside the Tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been. And there they said to her, “Woman why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken my Lord, and I don’t know where they laid him.” When she had said this she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for.” She thought it was the gardener and said to him, “Sir if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him.” Jesus said to her “Mary!” She turned and said to Him in Hebrew “Rabbouni” which means Teacher.
Jesus wants to know us, to intercede and guide us. But we need to have a close personal relationship with Him. Start with reading the New Testament, the words of Jesus, let him speak to you in scripture. Try to find quiet time , maybe taking a walk or just sitting in a favorite chair with no noise and pray to ask for the treasures he has for you. I know what you are thinking , who has time. Sometimes I wake up early and go to a room before anyone else is awake to read the daily scriptures for the day. click here for Daily Mass Readings
Or when the lights are out, just thanking God for another day, if things did not go so well, I ask God,” what are you telling me?” You will be surprised the graces with which He gives when we ask for them. When things are hectic I just ask God to please make it possible that I can have more prayer time if this is His will, this may be a time to prioritize.
Have you ever lived without Jesus in your life? Unfortunately, I have. Since the beginning of time beginning with Adam and Eve people have worshiped false idols or were led astray from God by false prophets. If you do not know Jesus it is very easy to be misconstrued and deceived sometimes by well meaning people that have been taught wrongly.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Rev. 21:1-5.)
When studying the Bible I suggest reading and reflecting with a reliable study course. Scripture can be misinterpreted and misunderstood. Scott Hann is one of many that is learned in scripture in Theology and he has free online courses at his website St Paul Center . Scott Hann’s conversion story is told here on this web site CERC I think you will enjoy reading his path in life. Or maybe your parish has a Bible study group, this a great way to grow spiritually and the fellowship is encouraging. The Bible Study group at my parish has been life changing for me and I think surrounding yourself with others that have a love for God is great support and there you can find people who are knowledgeable and willing to share their faith.
Here is some suggested reading material that I have found helpful
When I purchase from Amazon I look for used books
Family, friends and sometimes just brief acquaintances express interest in my Catholic Faith, and though I am not an expert theologian, I am just someone who has lived in a world without Jesus , and know what life is like without God. I want to bring the Joy I found to others in my little way. My faith as evolved with Mary’s divine intersession. With the month of October being dedicated to Our Lady, I think this is the perfect time to share inspirational prayers , devotions, books and art of Mary the Mother of God. The most important life changing moments for me came with reading the words of Christ in the New Testament, attending Mass and receiving the Eucharist. Also, Bible Study at my parish and listening and viewing EWTN. has also been influential. Growing up without the love of Jesus is like growing up without food, he is nourishment for the spiritual life. I know Mary has played a key role in my awakening, she brought me to her son. There is much to say about Mary it is not possible to assimilate the knowledge, wisdom and virtues and Blessings she brings to us in such little time. I intend to share what has influenced and has been powerful in conversions of souls through the centuries with Mary’s intercession. If you have a devotion or prayer with Our Lady that has been life changing for you, please share with my readers by leaving a comment.
Mary’s role in the Church is inseparable from her union with Christ and flows directly from it. “This union of the mother with the Son in the work of salvation is made manifest from the time of Christ’s virginal conception up to His death”; it is made manifest above all at the hour of His Passion. Catechism pg.273
O, Mary Conceived Without Sin Pray For Us That Have Recourse To Thee
Mary our Mother of God has been instrumental in my conversion, strengthened my Faith and has interceded on many occasions and difficulties in my life. Mary has brought myself and my family to her Son Jesus. I can remember the first time I prayed the rosary twenty-five years ago, I can see clearly the blessings that I have been given. When you choose the Way of Christ do not think, worries and distress will not arise, this is how we become a better person. God uses these situations to shape us as his disciples, this I believe may be when God is calling us. To become more of what God wants us to be through humility or to teach us mercy as he shows us mercy . Mary will make your cross a lighter load so much so you do not feel the weight of your cross. For our times Mary is the answer. If you want peace and true Joy Mary will bring you to God. I remember when I thought happiness was in material wealth and success. Those things in life are temporary and they can disappear from situations out of our control. We can have extreme wealth, lots of nice pretty things, health and even be beautiful but beauty fades and wealth can be lost in a instant.
We can give Mary our life to shape and mold us, to prepare us for our Lord, then we have nothing to fear. Just give her everything and she will guide you in the right direction.
The Rosary is the way to salvation. When reciting the rosary we are meditating on the life of Christ.
The Bride and Groom in the story are us. We who have done all that we could. Humanly speaking to ensure our happiness find that our life scripts have been changed by unexplained outside forces.♥
Suddenly chaos erupts and in walks stress, sorrow, anger and frustrations. All of our efforts have come to nothing. We are at the end of ourselves and in that dark moment. Jesus and Mary arrive. Mary conveys our predicament to Jesus. We have no more wine… no more joy in life, no sense of purpose or meaning. Even though Jesus says to Mary “what is that to me and thee?”, “My time has not yet come.” Jesus nevertheless, intervenes. ♥
I see Him in the role of the servant in this story as well. His is the suffering servant, carrying in like the empty clay jars on his back as He carries the cross, He carries our sins, miseries, anxieties, emptiness, vulnerabilities and as He does everything changes. He fills us with the water and wine (our clay hearts) flowing from His side, from His Heart. “O Blood and Water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy on us,” as He pours Himself into us we come to life again we out filled with very life of Jesus and our mourning will turn to Joy and the Wedding Feast of Cana changed everything of the Bride and Groom.♥
The moral of this story ; always invite Jesus and Mary into all your life, especially when things aren’t going as planned. Their presence changes things- if not the circumstances then how we look at out circumstance. Jesus and Mary change us, change our hearts,♥ They change our wants. Their presence makes all the difference!!♥

The Rosary originated in 1208, Our Lady appeared to Saint Dominic in the chapel of Notre Dame and instructed him on how to recite the Rosary. Saint Dominic was preaching against the Albigensian heresy in southern France without success, until Mary’s intervention. Mary told him to preach it to the world, promising it would convert sinners and obtain graces for the just. With October dedicated to the Holy Rosary. The rosary is a spiritual weapon that the enemy (satan) fears.
These are powerful promises Mary has given us , and just like a mother she has given us inspiration and incentive to have a devotion to the Rosary.

Feast day October 1st (1873-1897)
Saint Therese is very special to me. She is my friend . I pray for the intersession of Saint Therese and I try miserably every day to emulate her “Little Way.” Saint Therese of Lisieux (1873-1897) was the last of nine children born to Saints Louis and Zelie Martin in Alencon, France. Her family was devoutly religious, and all five daughters entered the convent. From an early age she desired to give herself totally to Jesus. Her Happy Childhood gave way to the trial of the death of her mother when she was four years old. She also suffered a strange illness that brought her near death. Her sisters prayed for her recovery, and Therese was completely healed after she saw the Virgin Mary statue in her room smile down on her. Just before her 14th birthday, on Christmas Eve Therese had mystical experiences of the Child Jesus. At the age of 15 she obtained special permission to enter the the Carmalite convent in Lisieux where her two sisters were professed. Recognizing her youth and weakness, and unable to do the great things for God her heart desired she would follow the path of spiritual childhood at the feet of Jesus, as his “Little Flower” and instead focus on small acts of kindness for love of Jesus and interior acts of self-denial , a spirituality called “The Little Way.” Therese died of tuberculosis at the age of 24, and her high degree of holiness was discovered through her autobiography, Story of a Soul. Her Little Way become influential around the world, her deep theological life caused Pope St. John Paul II to declare her a doctor of the Church, even though she was not a learned scholar. She is the patron against sickness, tuberculosis, and loss of parents, as well as of pilots, air crews, florist, missionaries and the sick. Saint Therese of Lisieux pray for us
Are you in a wilderness experience ??? Are you in a strange, new bewildering set of circumstances that are completely disorienting?
Wilderness experiences seem to be times of deeper dependency and intimacy with God. When we are in a state of “God dependency” we can feel very humbled we are no longer in control. We tun around trying to find wells, streams, oasis, because water is very important in a desert wilderness. In a strange land you don’t know where the wells are —these sources of life, nourishment, strength and relief. You believe that you are alone, then God shows up and either brings you to a well or one shows up. The Living Water is the well, beside the well, journeying with you to the well. All is well at his Well. Written by Carol

♥I was hard pressed to the ground in the dust and Ash of sorrow, shame and brokenness. It was there that I saw Him. I beheld His face covered with dust, shame, sorrow, brokenness under the weight of His Cross. I reached out to touch His face a breathe away, to comfort Him and kiss Him with a loving look. He was no longer alone and neither was I. Our eyes met and our souls embraced. He was there at my lowest point and I knew Him in His Sorrow. I was there at His lowest point He needed a look of love ♥ so I gave Him mine. For one moment in His sorrow, ground into the dust, He saw a look of Love ♥ By One His Little Ones

Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
At the Samaritans well I would like to share a devotion that has brought many blessings into my life. There are so many beautiful prayers, novenas and devotions that bring relief and joy to a soul. I believe God would not leave us here on earth without such help. In particular as a Catholic convert I have found the lives of the Saints and the intersession of Mary will help lead us to a closer relationship to Jesus. One devotion in particular that has changed my life is the Devotion to The Sacred Heart of Jesus. In a world of suffering, this Heart will bring Joy!
Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque was a disciple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She developed a love and devotion of the Blessed Sacrament at a very young age. She received private revelations from Jesus of devotion of his Sacred Heart. For more details of Saint Margaret Alacoque vsit wikipedia Saint Margaret Mary
As I was writing this I was thinking How beautiful and generous is Our Lord that he would bless us so much, just to have us spend a little time with him as to console His Heart, that has done so much for us, and yet we are ungrateful. I have been practicing this devotion several years and Jesus has blessed our families much more than you can imagine. He keeps His promises. I have seen surprise conversions, more peace and harmony within our family and when you are filled with graces and love from Jesus and you let him in your heart this influences everyone around. I think as I have practiced this devotion my love has increased for Jesus and he has shown mercy to me and is teaching me to show mercy towards others. This does take dedication and perseverance with faith and trust through the grace of God. There are times when I am distracted and slack at my devotion and with the consequence of feeling detached from what is Holy. I know I will always be a sinner here on earth but I keep trying through the Heart of Jesus. At one time I felt unworthy, so much so that I could not even look at the cross, with intercession of Mary the Mother of God she brought me to her Son, now I look to the cross, especially when I sin and in my sorrows I know He is there and Loves me.
Note also that June is devoted to the Sacred Heart.
Remember to have a Image blessed by a priest to display in your home.
