Home Page- Finding my way to Jesus

Hi, my name is Diana Penrod, a Catholic Convert. I am a mother of two adult children, four grandchildren and I have a wonderful husband I have been married to for 40 years. We enjoy time spent together at our home, traveling and visits with our children and grandchildren; that we like to spoil. I believe it is true that “A Family that Prays together Stays Together,,” unfortunately I did not learn till later in life;

A quote from Saint Augustine,s Confessions; “Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new…You were with me, but I was not with you.”

     I started this site, as one of God’s little ones, to bring other souls to a place of comfort, a place away from this crazy, busy upside down world.

   I love that I am Catholic, and feel very Blessed. After a Novena to Saint Therese of Lisieux , I was inspired to start this website. I want to share Bible Journaling; lectio divina, a Latin term “Divine Reading”, religious art, prayers, novenas, stories of the lives of Saints and reflections along with illustrations. There will be free art you can download, and coloring pages for young and old also crafting and rosary making.

   Art opens our senses to the beauty of God which brings us closer to the interior Life. Early Christians that were not literate depended on the arts to learn the way of Christianity; in a society that laid great emphasis on religion, artist were indispensable in aid for worshiping. The faithful used images in communal and individual worship. Images of Christ and his narrative are the most common theme and scenes from the Old Testament.

St Luke, writer of the Gospel and the Acts. Beloved Physicians (Colossians 4:14) Patron Saint of Physicians, Surgeons and Artist, painted this Image of Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ. This painting was carried by Saint Thomas the apostle to India in the first century. It is kept at the main alter in the Church of Mount Saint Thomas in Madras, India, the place where Saint Thomas was martyred for the Catholic Faith.

        My Conversion Story

    My way to Catholicism began as a little girl in elementary school. I remember walking in a Catholic Church with a friend; Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. There were beautiful stain glass windows portraying the life of Jesus and Mary, and ornate decorated features, I was overwhelmed by the beauty and the atmosphere of holiness. I knew at that moment right then and there in my heart I wanted to be Catholic I kept this secret to myself.                                                                                                                                                                    I love  my parents and appreciate the Love of God that they passed on to me. My  Mother, who recently passed away, was a generous and giving person as is my Father of 81 years who is still with us. I choose a different path through Christ. I believe that God called me and saved  my soul that day as a little girl in Saint Mary’s Church.

       By divine intervention I married a beautiful soul that just happened to be Catholic. When our oldest son was five, I enrolled him in a Catholic School. This was the time to convert, my children were baptized Catholic, my husband was Catholic, I wanted as a family to share our Faith together.  This is not a easy decision to make when you have been raised in a completely different culture. I read all the books I could find on Catholicism. After numerous books and the Bible I knew this was the Church Christ Founded, I read about the Apostles and Mary the mother of God, I converted.  I had just recently discovered my grand-mother would attend mass occasionally at a Catholic Church near by, I do not know if my grand-father knew; but apparently she had doubts, most likely she was afraid to go against her husband and family.

Luke 12:49-53     Jesus the Cause of Division

Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two, and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

“Loyalty to Jesus is even more important than family unity.” notation from The Ignatius Catholic Bible Study New Testament.

In Jesus day and time the unity of the Jewish family was sacred you were disgraced and disowned if you left the Jewish custom. If you followed Jesus you sacrificed a relationship with family. This happens often in our day and time.

With raising a family , duties as a mother and wife I became distracted with the business of life, though we always attended mass together and followed the practices of Catholicism. Raising young adults is not a easy task; especially High School years; with that in mind we also owned and operated our own business working twelve to sixteen hours a day. Most of the time I felt in a fog, there were days I could not even tell you the date.  I began praying the rosary. I had to teach myself how, with pamphlets I found at church; I memorized prayers and prayed novenas to St. Jude and pleaded for Mary’ s intercession . When God calls us,  he wakes us up and sometimes to get our attention he shakes things up. After twenty years we sold our business.  The first thing on my mind was to spend more time with God ; I know through prayer he brought us out of difficulties.

The Saints will inspire us and by example lead us in the right direction,in reading  about lives of the saints; I found  Saint Louis-Marie Grignon De Montfort’s book —–True Devotion to Mary

Real Conversion came to me when I did a retreat with the Bible Study Group  at our church, “A Do It Yourself Retreat” 33 Days To Morning Glorywritten by Father Micheal Gaitley, MIC

Father Gaitley wrote this updated version, with views of devotion of Mary with teachings from Marian experts. St John Paul II, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, St. Maximillian Kolbe, and of course St. Louis De Montfort. Devotion to Jesus through Mary is perfect. My life completely changed after my consecration to Mary; she really did lead me to Jesus, only through God’s Grace,I could not do this on my own. I  do not want my pages to be about me , I pray your life will change as we discover together Gods Perfect Plan for all of us through the lives of the Saints, Mary and Jesus. I plan to go more in depth of Consecration to Mary in this little place of the web. God has infinite Mercy for all of us , no matter where we are in our life no matter what our sins, we just need to open our hearts and mind. If you want a better more joyful life, Mary will guide you there as a perfect Mother…..Just ask her. In time you will have better relationships with friends and family; if your vocation is marriage you will have a stronger, more loving life together because God is Love and Christ will lead all of there , if we just ask.

Lets Walk This Path Together
